Pay-By-Mile auto Insurance

The concept is similar to pay as you drive and it takes into the account the distance you travel as one of the items on your policy. Through self-reported mileage reports you send in form time to time, the insurance firm establishes the relationship between your insurance premiums and the distance traveled making for affordable and adequate insurance coverage. Trending is established after a few months and with higher mileage comes a well oiled vehicle, meaning it is well maintained enough to get you lower premiums. Pay as you drive differs little, adding the factor of how much travel time and how well you use your car, based on your needs choosing public transport over the car for short trips and using well planned routes for long trips, all making for one lean machine and a mean insurance coverage to match.

Did you know that your driving habits affect how much car insurance premiums you pay?

The rule of thumb here is that the lower risk driver you are, the lower car insurance premiums you pay, and vice versa. Let’s say you have a history of being in traffic accidents or are cited with a lot of traffic violations, then it will simply follow that you will be paying a higher premium on car insurance. This is because insurance companies, understandably, view drivers with this kind of behavior to be high-risk for them and are much more likely to collect their insurance, so they thus pay more insurance premiums.

So to avoid paying high car insurance premiums, simple be someone who practices defensive and safe driving. This puts not only your insurance premiums at a minimum, of also keeps you away from actual bodily harm.

These days of economic crisis, it is very alluring to skimp on your car insurance. But don’t ! Not having even the minimum coverage required by law, could mean problems for you. Stringent penalties could be given to you when you drive again after figuring in an accident. You will also have to continuously maintain a bond or other proof of car insurance and when this bond ends, you will again be given penalties – what’s more, in states like Ohio, you will be ordered to keep this bond on file with an Ohio insurance company – even if you transfer to another state!

If you want to lower your car insurance premiums, one way to do that is to make sure that your car is cheap to insure. If you haven’t bought your car yet, you may be confused by the hundreds of cars out in the in market. As a general guide, here are some of the cheapest cars to insure in the market are the Fiat Punto, Ford Fiesta, Volkswagen Polo, Peugeot 106, and Renault Clio. For mid-range cars, these are the Peugeot 307, Vauxhall Astra, Toyota Corolla, Land Rover Freelander and Audi A3.
As a general rule, the cheaper your car’s buying price was, the cheaper it is to insure. Also, the cheaper and simpler your car is to repair, the more likely it is that your premium will be low. And if you have your eye on that snazzy new sports car, think again. Cars with greater acceleration and top speeds usually get the highest premium because they are statistically involved in more accidents.

An interesting study conducted by one of Manchester University professors, George Beattie, was released to the public. The Manchester professor concluded that males tend to be more aggressive on the road because of the primitive set-up of our scientific forefathers. Males are the hunters of the society. They are the ones who are more likely to try to outmaneuver each other on the streets, always vying for that number one spot when it comes to speeding. This study shows that the risky behaviors of men are something natural and perhaps, no amount of restriction can hinder them from violating traffic rules.

One thing you have to learn by heart when driving is that of defense driving. A lot of people think that if they already know how to hold that steering wheel, they know all the stuff about driving. Wrong. Although defense driving is taught in driving schools, not everyone takes it by heart.

Defense driving teaches you the basics on what you are going to in case a mishap is about to happen. An example of this is that of snow skidding. Some worn out tires have a hard time grasping on snow, and so, when the time comes that your tires suddenly give up, defense driving teaches you what to do (i.e. how to steer the wheel, what position should the gear be etc.).

Apart from the previous mentioned data gathered by Direct Line Car Insurance, it shows that almost 12 percent of the car owners have left some of their important documents visible to the public eye. This is in fact dangerous—more so if their cars have less or no tints at all. Direct Line Car Insurance interviewed some people and they found out that 7 percent of the drivers forgot to put aside their documents away from people’s visibility, and that 6 percent said that they have completely forgotten to lock their doors once or twice. These types of people are the favorites of those identity thieves, so better change your ways now if you don’t want your identity to be used by someone else.
